How long have you been teaching at SVAD?

I think Im starting my 4th year. We won’t count covid.. I don’t think it really counts.

What do your responsibilities at SVAD include?

I teach a lot of beginner and intermediate level classes and love the pre teen 9+ age group. It’s my favorite. I teach jazz lyrical tap and jazz, as well as the adult tap which is a favorite!

I add a layer of cross conditioning to the studio with my Pilates background and have assisted in creating stretch and strength training opportunities during the year as well as during summer intensives.

I choreograph a few Dansation company solos each year and also help with Nutcracker annually. I usually choreography and teach the Gingersnaps, Soldiers, Battle, and Tea.

What is your dance background?

I grew up dancing at Gotta Dance in Redmond during my teen years. As a young adult I transitioned to Westlake Dance Center and was accepted into their Performance Company for two years. I also took my first professional dance job with Greg Thompson Entertainment here in Seattle. In my late teen and early adult years I also worked at various studios teaching dance and was also the director of my own after school dance program within the Northshore School District.

I eventually moved to LA and took a job dancing on cruise lines for 3 years. Both with Holland America and Carnival Cruise Lines. After my professional dance years I returned to college and received my Bachelors Degree in Dance Choreography and Education from UC Irvine.

What else should we know about you? Special recognition, awards, etc.

I have a BFA in Dance from UC Irvine.

I was the recipient of an ArtsBridge Scholarship bringing the arts to Orange County Elementary school's where I designed and implemented my own program blending dance, music, and fine arts for 2nd graders.

I have a 400 hr Pilates Method Certification on all apparatus. I am a licensed Reflexologist with the state of Washington.

I am a level 2 Franklin Method Educator and also hold a Pelvic Floor Certification with Franklin Method.

I run my own Pilates business out of my private home studio.

What do you enjoy outside of studio time?

I love being a super mom to by two boys. I’m very involved in their lives and homeschooled them in there early elementary years. I met my husband while working on the cruise lines and so married a man with a cool South African accent! Visiting every few years is a massive highlight for our entire family.

My full time job is actually being a personal trainer and movement educator. I can totally geek out on functional anatomy. Currently my newest obsession is vibrational medicine using tuning forks for health and wellbeing.
